Apollo App Review: Fresh, RSS Reading By Adobe

Send to friendPrinter-friendly version

Adobe released the Apollo run time as an alpha release today. Hidden away on a Labs webpage, somewhat difficult to find, is a list of sample Apollo applications. One of them is Fresh (.air file), an RSS Reader that's been built by Adobe.

Fresh is a skinable RSS Reader, showing you the latest entries from your favourite RSS feeds. The data for the RSS feeds is stored locally, unfortunately, so you can't use the same application to read your RSS feeds from two different machines. Hopefully that will come in a future version: we'll have to wait and see.

For now, there's the start of a promising RSS reader in Apollo, something I know a lot of people have been wanting for a while.

Have you built an Apollo app that you'd like the world to know about? Contact me to let me know about it and I may blog about it on RIApedia.

Inaccurate attribution

The package was put together by Apollo, however, the RSS reader was built by Jack Slocum (http://jackslocum.com/). Moreover, this RSS reader uses a library, Ext, that has been developed by Jack. There's attribution in the resources, but I think it's worth noting to your readers that Adobe was not involved in the development of the functionality of the UI, the images for the UI, etc. Rather, this example's value is in illustrating how Apollo can use HTML, JS, and CSS to construct an installable UI.
