Mozilla released Firefox 3 Beta 1 yesterday, the first release of the Firefox browser to support offline applications natively. The release notes specify the new features under the heading "Improved Platform for Developers". The other item in the release notes that I thought was interesting was allowing web applications to handle certain protocols. Here's the longer description: "Web-based protocol handlers: web applications, such as your favorite webmail provider, can now be used instead of desktop applications for handling mailto: links from other sites. Similar support is available for other protocols (Web applications will have to first enable this by registering as handlers with Firefox)."

Keep it simple
I wish they would keep Firefox simple. Quick load times and good (standard compliant) page rendering is what made Firefox, for me, more preferable than Opera. Is Firefox going to suffer from it's own success and end up bloated, slow and unstable much like its arch enemy?
All Ready Is
Firefox is already bloated and slow. You can't even use it for the whole day without having to relaunch. It's only gotten worse with age, and version 2 is without a doubt slower than 1.5, and not to mention the tab preferences are completely screwed up. I've only used version 2 of Firefox for a short time before going back to 1.5x. If you're on a Mac, give Safari 3 a try for a while (err, wait, you can get it for Windows, too) - unlike pervious versions, you don't get the feeling you're on a different Web than everyone else. It's so fast, too - and that makes it a joy to use.
New features?
Is there a list of new features for the Firefox3? From what I read I am not sure what will be the impact of the browser basic features and what we will lose or gain with the new release. I understand is still in Beta phase, but I would like to see what are the expectations and new features because I use FF daily-especialy because of the add-ons which make my life so much easier when using FF compared to other browsers.
Thank you,
