David Heinemeier Hansson doesn't think too highly of offline access to applications, but that doesn't mean that the need doesn't exist. Now a company called GenITeam is planning to take one of 37signals' most popular applications, Basecamp, and allow people to use it offline. The new application, called GeniDo, is a Flex front end to Basecamp, which has a public API available.
The following YouTube video shows the application in action.
Here's what Khurram Samad says about the app: "GeniDo enhances usability of Basecamp by providing simple but yet intuitive interface; allowing users to manage projects with much ease. Furthermore, the application adds offline processing capabilities to Basecamp. The feature allows users to manage project without internet access and synchronize with online BaseCamp at convenience. The feature is specifically handy with increasing down-times witnessed by Basecamp users. Though to date, the application only supports preliminary features including To-Do list, Milestones and Messages however future versions are expected to provide functionality beyond Basecamp current feature set. The application interface is designed using Adobe AIR while back-end is coded in Java."
