Activa Live Chat Launches Desktop Client

Activa Live Chat, a Flex based live chat solution for websites, recently launched a new desktop client based on Adobe AIR. The desktop version has the exact same UI as the web version, but with a number of added benefits - the most important one being taskbar (Windows) or dock (OS X) notifications of incoming messages.

I've tested out Activa Live Chat before, and its really easy to integrate into your website. They provide a JavaScript snippet that you put into your webpage, and that JavaScript launches the Activa Live Chat header window when the page loads. If you're looking to integrate Live Chat into your existing RIA, they have an SDK available.

Activa Live Chat is available as a hosted solution for websites looking to incorporate live chat into their site. A free 14 day trial is also available.

Integrate Live Chat Into Your RIA

Last week Activa Live Chat, a Flex based application that allows website owners to chat in real time with visitors on the site, announced a bunch of new features and an SDK for RIA developers. The SDK is really cool - it allows RIA developers to integrate live chat into their RIA, customize the own chat windows, build custom automated chat invitations and more.

I haven't tested it out, but I'm convinced that adding in live chat to advertising landing pages can increase the number of people who take a specific action. I've integrated Activa Live Chat on a few sites that I've run, and the results have shown that (although they've been small sample sizes). Pricing for live chat is just $69 per seat - extremely inexpensive, and easy for someone to setup a small test to see if the solution will work (there's a 14 day trial as well).

Update: Virgin Mobile actually used the SDK to develop their Let's Have TXT site.

Have your RIA Questions Answered by Adobe Experts

Adobe will be hosting a live question and answer online chat today from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM ET. If you've got questions about RIA technologies like Ajax, Flex and Adobe AIR, head over to the Flex developer center, click on the link to join the chat, and ask away. James Ward, Ryan Stewart, Matt Chotin, Dave McAllister and I will be on hand to answer any questions you have about rich Internet applications. The RIA live chat will also be featured on the front page of Sourceforge.net and Slashdot.org in a marketing campaign for Adobe RIA technologies.
